A cruise to nowhere sails out into international waters for a short duration of generally 2 to 3 days, allowing passengers with limited time to enjoy a quick, fuss-free getaway, before returning to the point of embarkation without any intermediate port calls. They book a conventional 3 day cruise for a quick getaway and simply stay onboard. A cruise to nowhere is when a ship leaves and returns to the same port without stopping at any port on her journey. All major cruise lines stopped cruises to nowhere from the United States in because of The Jones Act. Very rarely a cruise line will sell a cruise to nowhere departing and returning from a port outside of the United States.

  Both DH and I really enjoy sea days, but if it came down to it, we wouldn't book a cruise to nowhere. We would instead book a land vacation at a resort, because there would be better pool facilities and spa and more restaurant choices -- perhaps a beach. I wish I could say yes to the idea, but for us it's no.   California’s High Speed Rail project has been dubbed the “train to nowhere,” in part because construction began in the Central Valley—not an entirely fair characterization, given that any connection between San Francisco and Los Angeles must use the valley.
